The goal in hair removal is for laser light to penetrate to the depth of the hair follicle. The heat from the laser light damages the follicle which will then no longer be able to produce a new hair. Hair revolves through three (3) phases of growth: anagen ( active-growing ), catagen (intermediate phase) and telagen (resting phase). It is only during the growing phase, anagen, that hair reacts to laser light. To reach all hair in a growth stage you may need 4-6 treatments with an interval of 3-8 weeks in between. It is important that the all hair cycles are treated to receive optimal results.

The challenge in Laser Hair Removal is to prevent the absorption of laser energy in the melanin of the epidermis that is present in darker skin types. The Profile laser resolves the problem with two unique methods. The first is the ability to select pulse of a width that uniquely targets the hair follicle without targeting the skin's natural melanin. The second is the Profile's ability to cool and protect the epidermis and dermis with a controlled, adjustable, and reliable cooling system. These two properties, tied to a full range of adjustable fluencies and a rapid and reliable scanner, allow treatment coverage without the need for the time and mess of a topical anesthetic.
